The Asset and Tag Manager, is the primary “Tag Registry” in CE, and manages tags of all disciplines, including parent child relationships, technical specifications, document and drawing associations, and OEM information.  The ATM contains a single interface to query tags against systemization, location, and control system structures. It also contains general and advanced searching capabilities where like can be queried for and edited individually or for advanced users, using a “batch editing” capability.

The ATM can be populated using the import module, where over 500+ fields can be mapped to the source XLS file for importing.   This module is used to track all changes (by every field) to each tag, identifying who, when and what value was the field changed to.  This tool is required in order to develop work packages in the CCMS, or perform FMEA functions in the ODMS, or say Safety Isolations in the SRMS.  The “Tag” is the most important record in the database, as everything links or flows from this record.

Each tag is assigned a discipline and tag type. For example,  in order to develop a lockout tagout instruction for a pump, several tags need to be created and allocated to the various isolation points.  We would need the primary mechanical equipment, the pump (100-PP-101), the electrical motor (100-PP-101M) and electrical source details, such as a MCC and cubical number. We would also want to know any control or power cables going to or from the pump (100PP101M-00C1), and possibly the inlet or outlet piping to the pump (100-PW-2”-001-01) and drain valve (100-HV-101).  You will see that from this example, we have a mechanical, electrical, cable, piping disciplines and various parent / child associations.  The ATM not only tracks physical tags, but it also tracks soft (or virtual) tags typically managed in the DCS.

CE tracks all physical assets, soft points, and also fictitious tags such as buildings, structures, areas, systems, or subsystems.   These “Tags” are used to assign project and plant personnel to identify something in the field or on an engineering document. Without this module, many of the other modules in CE would not be usable as a tag is the primary record where most work is generated against, or assigned to.
