Work Breakdown Tree (WBS)

FAQs  | Feedback

A Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), in project management and systems engineering, is a deliverable-oriented decomposition of a project into smaller components.  In this case projects are always based on Phases, Stages and Activities (level 3).  Level 4 tasks are tracked in the PCT module and is where P6 schedules would be imported and manipulated.  Level 5 tasks are tracked in the CCMS management suite.

The process for developing Project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is outlined below:

 Step

  Action

  1

Navigation:  Configuration > Trees/Tasks > Work Breakdown Tree

It will then display icons that are considered “Core” configuration modules.  Setting up a project will require at a minimum of a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) which will contain:

  • Phases
  • Stages
  • Activities (optional)

The WBS module is a core module within the CE foundation and is ONLY ACCESSED via the CE homepage (switchboard).

Note:  To access the WBS tool, a project must be selected from the Organization Chart.

Note: Enter in planned START and END dates if they are available, as they are used in several reports.

Activity Edit Form.

 4

ENTER ACTIVITY:  Left click the STAGE and press the NEW LEAF button to enter in an ACTIVITY for the selected phase.

Enter in the number “CO.1.01” for the number and “Level 2 Cost Definition” for the name.  You will notice the “Level” is set to ACTIVITY.  Press SAVE to commit the ACTIVITY to the WBS.
